Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant challenge to global public health, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic approaches. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have emerged as promising candidates for combating drug-resistant infections due to their unique mechanisms of action and broad-spectrum activity. This paper reviews the current understanding of the mechanisms underlying the antimicrobial activity of novel AMPs and their potential applications in treating drug-resistant infections. Key topics include the structure-function relationship of AMPs, modes of action against bacterial pathogens, mechanisms of resistance development, and strategies for enhancing therapeutic efficacy. Additionally, recent advances in AMP-based drug development and clinical translation are discussed, along with future directions for research in this field.
